Santa Trinita in a photograph of
the early 20th century. |
The Santa Trinita bridge is located
between the Ponte Vecchio and Ponte alla
Carraia. It is the accurate copy of the bridge
built by Ammannati in 1557 and destroyed by
bombs in World War II. The statues of the
Capricorn on either side of the bridge are of
particular interest: the sign of the Zodiac and
personal emblem of Cosimo I de' Medici,
when seen from the river they appear to be
following with their eyes the person sailing on
the river. |
The Church of Santa Trinita was built in
the second half of the 11th century, and then
enlarged and converted to Gothic style. Inside,
among other works of art, there is the
Annunciation by Lorenzo Monaco, the
Federighi tomb, a marble work by Luca della
Robbia, and the frescos of the Cappella
Sassetti and Adoration of the Shepherds on
the altar by Ghirlandaio. The doors of the
church are dated 1640. |
The Church of Santa
Trinita is in the Piazza by
the same name in an 18th
century portraying by
Jacques Durand. |
This palace, built in the middle of the 13th
century was the residence of the Gianfigliazzi
family until the end of the 18th century, and
was the seat of the celebrated "Casino de'
Nobili" (club of the aristocracy). |
