This is Cleo, an Egyptian Goose who has become an unexpected icon of Florence. Originally from Egypt, she chose the loggia of the Vasari Corridor as her home, turning into its gentle, winged guardian.
With a limp that made her rely on human kindness, Cleo grew close to passersby, tourists, and locals alike — greeting them, accepting food, and silently watching over one of the city’s most historic passages. As even the Uffizi Galleries have shared, her presence has become part of Florence’s living story.

Florence opens one of its most treasured symbols to the public ✨🔥
On Sunday, January 18th, 2026, the majestic Brindellone — the historic cart at the heart of Florence’s centuries-old Scoppio del Carro tradition — will be exceptionally open to visitors to celebrate the completion of the restoration of its monumental door.

The morning will be marked by the presence of the Corteo della Repubblica Fiorentina and the spectacular Flag Throwers, followed by the inauguration of the Brindellone’s door — the tallest door in Europe still in use for a civil building.
From 12:00 PM to 6:00 PM, guided tours will take place every hour (last visit at 6:00 PM), offering a rare opportunity to discover up close one of Florence’s oldest and most fascinating traditions.
