On July 27th an unique event will take place in Florence, the total lunar eclipse. The totality phase will occur between 9:30 pm and 11:13 pm, while the maximum eclipse, or the largest darkening of the Moon, is expected at 10:22 pm. The Moon, after the exit from the totality, will cross the twilight cone to emerge definitively and thus mark the end of the eclipse at 1:30 am on the morning of July 28th.
On this occasion, the Earth will ‘slide’ between the Sun and the Moon and the atmosphere of our planet will give the satellite the reddish color that will characterize this eclipse, which is called Blood Moon.
Another opportunity will present itself on this occasion: Mars will reach the opposition while it will be near its minimum distance from the Sun, offering an ideal visibility of the red planet. Mars will keep the full Moon in eclipse company, forming a beautiful couple in red.
And this show of 1 hour and 43 minutes – the longest of the century!!! – which can be seen with naked eyes, will be even more beautiful from the Terrace of our restaurant, The Tower, which offers not only a spectacular view of the city but remains right under the stars, that is, it couldn’t get any better. Or could it?
