The spring has come, the sun is shining and once in Florence, it is not a bad idea to reserve a few days to travel to a small paradise, located between the provinces of Livorno and Grosseto. We are talking about Maremma, made unique by the variety of its territory. Apart from the beautiful blue sea, surrounded by long beaches, Maremma blends together hills covered with woods, mashes and flat lands, green hills and natural thermal baths. Not to mention the breathtaking sunflower fields, that can be seeing all the way trough the road that will take you there (maybe you’ll have to wait until June to see them, but there are many other types of flowers blooming all around from April on).
Maremma is also a mixture of colors, blue as the sea of the Argentario, black as the rocks of Talamone, yellow as the sandy beaches of Castiglione della Pescaia, green as the hills around Massa Marittima and brown as Mount Amiata. Actually, the region is a blessing to all the tastes, not only to the sight. The food, for example, is unique because of its typical products and great wines, such as Morellino or the white wine from Pitigliano. If you have to choose one typical dish, go for the acquacotta maremmana, a poor soup consumed by the “butteri”, the typical horse shepherd of Maremma, a kind of Italian cowboy.
The ingredients differ according to the area in which the acquacotta is prepared, always based on the seasonality of the food. It has some basic ingredients, such as eggs, peeled tomatoes, onions, pecorino cheese and slices of stale bread, toasted and laid on the bottom to incorporate all the soup. A real delight. No matter what dish you decide to try, there’s one fundamental ingredient for all of them: the extra virgin olive oil from Maremma.
This timeless region with ancient roots, with Etruscan and Roman traces, Middle Ages high towers, castles and walled towns, not to mention the massive Medici wall in Grosseto, has so much places to be explored, reason why a one-day trip is not enough to see all its beauty and history. One good way of exploring Maremma is to rent a villa, where you can enjoy all the comfort of a luxurious residence immerse in an amazing scenario.
The Villa Ponente is one of this extraordinary places, a newly built villa overlooking the sea of Punta Ala bay, with a private pool and direct access to a rocky beach below. Surrounded by a large garden and bordering on a wider natural reserve, it guarantees the maximum privacy, safety and comfort required, although immersed in the almost untouched nature of the Mediterranean scrub. Guests are allowed to use a synthetic grass tennis court, as well as a series of additional high quality services that can make your stay an authentic experience. The structure is characterized by an elegant modern design, high technological systems and high energy efficiency. The property also has a 24 hour custody / security service.
The Villa Orizzonte Blu is another great option to enjoy the days in Maremma in high style. Built when this land expressed its wildest soul and the herdsmen grazed their flocks, Villa Orizzonte Blu still remains an evocative place of unquestionable charm. Nestled among the hills of the Tuscan Maremma overlooking the sea, it is a place where well-being and serenity, relaxation and charm find their maximum expression in an intimate contact with the nature. The love for this land and its fruits has allowed the property to preserve those values that only a land such as Maremma has yet to offer. We would say that love is the key word for this luxury villa located within a larger property and bordering a nature reserve. It guarantees its guests all the privacy and security required, while immersed in an almost untouched nature. Guests are allowed to use a synthetic grass tennis court and have direct access to a rocky beach below, as well as a series of additional high-quality services that can make your stay an authentic experience. The cost includes 4 hours of cleaning per day, excluding Saturday and Sunday. The property has a 24 hour custody / security service.
