Florence is all dressed up for the arrival of the Christmas! There are lights everywhere, which means that just by walking around with no certain destiny you can already enjoy the atmosphere. But if you are a Christmas lover and would like to visit all the possible Christmas trees in town, here are the ones you can’t miss.
Piazza Duomo: the spruce from Moena, in the Dolomiti, arrived in the city in the early December with the woodcutters of the Val di Fassa and is completely decorated and illuminated.
Palazzo Vecchio and Palazzo Medici Riccardi: both trees will have decorations made by young artists inspired by the theme of the Moon and the Moon Landing. The Tree of Palazzo Vecchio sees hanging on its fronds the preparations designed and executed by the students of the Leon Battista Alberti Art School, in a play of metallic colors and shapes that evoke the various phases of the moon; the Tree of Palazzo Medici Riccardi is the result of the work of the students of the State High School of Porta Romana, in an interpretation of the spheres of the moon and planets: starting from the same artistic materials, each element is in fact elaborated individually with different effects.
Piazza della Reppublica: created by Michelangelo Pistoletto, it is a large backlit tree covered with images depicting the variants of the Third Paradise (Terzo Paradiso).
Piazza Santa Maria Novella: punctuated by a sequence of luminous neon numbers, like alchemical and kabbalistic symbols, the work of Mimmo Paladino also contains a reference to the game around which families gather during the holidays Christmas, the tombola.
Piazza SS. Annunziata: the signs connected to cosmology on this creation by Domenico Bianchi create a spatial and temporal movement. Among drawings and empty spaces, the light will scape from the inside to be seen on the outside of the tree.
These last three are an initiative entitled THREE ARTIST TREE. It is a project of the Novecento Museum, curated by Sergio Risaliti, which elevates the meaning of one of the greatest Christmas symbols to that of artwork.
