Among the major festivals of Florence’s Summer 2024 is the new edition of “Sagrati in Musica Sotto le Stelle.” Organized by the Associazione Toscana Classica, this series features numerous free events spanning various musical genres: from classical to jazz, rock, and electronic music. All aim to promote mindful listening and to prevent the degradation of the churchyards involved.
The churchyards that will become the scene of these events are those of the Church of Saints Michael and Gaetano, Santa Felicita, the Parish of the Holy Family, Santa Maria del Carmine, the Misericordia of Florence, Piazza del Duomo, the Church of the Blessed Virgin Mary of Isolotto, and the Basilica of Santa Croce.
On Saturday, June 15, the Churchyard of the Misericordia of the Duomo will host “Once Upon a Music,” an evening dedicated to the most famous animated film music, performed by the Leviosa Quartet. On Sunday, June 16, the Churchyard of the Parish of the Holy Family will feature a range of genres from soul to funky with the musical event “The Soulstice.”
June includes four more events spanning various styles and traditions: Mexican Mariachi with “Melodies that Tell the Heart of Mexico” at the Churchyard of the Church of Carmine (Saturday, June 22); the clarinet quartet Le Rose dei Venti with music from the big and small screen at the Churchyard of the Church of Isolotto (Sunday, June 23); “Serenamente”, a musical journey between tradition and innovation at the Churchyard of the Misericordia of the Duomo (Saturday, June 29); and “Giardini e Giordani,” featuring quartets and concerts in a gallant style with music by T. Giordani and F. Giardini at the Churchyard of Santa Felicita (Sunday, June 30).
