Welcome to the fifth episode of our Special Series Fashion and Florence, where we continue to explore the stories of designers who have shaped the identity of Florence through their creativity. Today’s spotlight is on Enrico Coveri, a designer who revolutionized fashion with color, light, and laughter.
Born in Prato in 1952, just a few kilometers from Florence, Coveri was a natural talent who studied at the Accademia delle Belle Arti di Firenze before launching his career in fashion. His creative energy and bold vision were clear from the start: fashion wasn’t meant to be quiet—it was meant to shine.
Sequins, smiles, and self-expression
Enrico Coveri’s style was unmistakable. Vivid colors, flamboyant prints, and his signature sequins made each piece a celebration. His debut in Paris in 1977 was an instant success, and his motto—“You can’t be overdressed”—quickly became synonymous with the brand’s unapologetic optimism.
More than just beautiful clothes, Coveri’s designs represented a lifestyle of joy, individuality, and confidence. He broke the rules of minimalism that dominated the era and instead gave people permission to be bold, bright, and visible.
From Tuscany to the world
Although his career soared internationally, Enrico Coveri remained deeply connected to Florence and Tuscany, drawing inspiration from the region’s vibrant art, culture, and light. His global success didn’t diminish his roots—instead, it amplified them. Stars like Isabella Rossellini, Jerry Hall, and Andy Warhol admired his exuberant spirit.
After his untimely death in 1990, the Maison was passed on to his niece, Francesca Coveri, who continues to lead the brand with a commitment to her uncle’s original vision: expressive fashion that celebrates life.
Coveri and Antica Torre Tornabuoni: a shared love for beauty
Just like Enrico Coveri, Antica Torre Tornabuoni believes in honoring the past while embracing bold, modern elegance. Located on Via Tornabuoni, Florence’s most fashionable street, our residence stands just steps from the historic Maison Enrico Coveri boutique. It’s a street that has long connected fashion, art, and Florentine heritage—and one that we are proud to call home.
For guests who appreciate timeless style with a spark of daring, the spirit of Enrico Coveri lives on not only in his creations, but in every corner of Florence—and within the walls of Antica Torre Tornabuoni.
