460 years ago, on March 12, the contract to build the Vasari Corridor was signed.
The hidden path above Florence, stretching nearly 800 meters, was commissioned by Cosimo I de’ Medici and designed by Giorgio Vasari.
Built in just five months, it allowed the Grand Duke to move safely from Palazzo Vecchio to Palazzo Pitti, passing through the Uffizi, over Ponte Vecchio, and alongside Santa Felicita, avoiding the bustling streets below.
Closed to visitors since 2016 for refurbishment and structural upgrades, it has been fully restored and is accessible again, in its original "bare" state, just as it appeared when Florence’s rulers once walked its path.✨
