Lucca Biennale Cartasia

Mostra Internazionale di Arte in Carta

The Lucca Biennale Cartasia is on! Until September 26 it will be possible to visit the biggest Paper Art exhibition in the world. A unique opportunity for those who will be in Florence this month, as Lucca is less than two hours from Florence, which means that you can go and come back on the same day.

But the proximity to the birthplace of the renaissance is just one of the many reasons to visit this spectacular exhibition that is being held at the Ex-Museum of Comics, reopened after 10 years of inactivity.

Born in 2004, the Lucca Biennale Cartasia brings together Art, Design, Architecture realized in Paper with the aim of spreading knowledge on Paper Art through many artistic expressions and promoting innovation, sustainability, and tradition, in order to create discussion and confrontation on cultural and intellectual themes.

Fear and Desire

The theme of this 10th edition of the Lucca Biennale Cartasia is Fear and Desire, which inspired the artists, performers, designers, and architects to create their works. We are living a period of fear with the pandemic, so it couldn’t be more updated.

Though it may stop us from living freely, the fear is important to make us understand and recognize our limits, to preserve ourselves. Taking that into consideration, as well as the power of the desire to carry forward humankind, the exhibition aims to show an art that amazes everyone, even those who do not feel particularly close to this language.

The entrance to the headquarters is on the ground floor. The exhibition rooms are accessible through special routes. According to the regulations in force, tickets are strictly personal, non-transferable, non-duplicable, non-refundable. The tickets that give the right to the reduction will be checked at the gates of the exhibition by the staff appointed to check. In line with the hygiene and health protocols provided for cultural activities, it is recommended to show up at the entrance with masks, to wear them during the visit and to keep a safe distance from other visitors. Small / medium-sized pets are allowed on a leash.

Tickets are available online. Free admission for children up to 10 years, journalists with ID cards, tourist guides, disabled people and carers.
