It’s no secret that the Antica Torre Tornabuoni is an important part of Florence’s history. The building belonged to one of the most important families of Florence in the 1300s, the Gianfigliazzi, so much “famous” that it was mentioned in the Divine Comedy by Dante Alighieri, in Inferno, Canto XVII – (The usurers).
Every little part of our property tells the story of Florence, but our 6th floor is special. Therefore, we decided to prepare the “Special Series: Florence told by our rooms”, that tells everything about the 5 exclusive suites that crown the stupendous Salone Gianfigliazzi together.
All of our rooms are very well thought out and were all created in different eras, as is normally the case in family homes, like a true palace with a presence of history. Following this concept, the 6th floor of the Palace was idealized.
This was the last project carried out in the Tower and its decoration features a particularity: each piece of furniture that does not come from the family or its ancestors was custom-made with an exclusive design by Florentine artisans (marble workers, blacksmiths, carpenters) as a legacy of high craftsmanship. Rugs and furniture that do not actually come from the family or their ancestors are the result of careful research at antique dealers or auctions.
Each design is exclusive, there is nothing made in series, no element is repeated.
Renaissance tradition
The heights of some rooms are majestic, grand and sumptuous throughout, while in others the ceilings tell the story of the terraces and beams, creating more intimate, immersive and cozy environments.
The Tuscan Renaissance tradition is transmitted and reinvented, inspired by great painters such as Ghirlandaio, who are a reference for the colors (green, brick red, sugar paper) and for the works, such as The Wedding of Saint John the Baptist located in the Tornabuoni Chapel (main chapel) of the Basilica of Santa Maria Novella.
The corridor on the 6th floor is the result of inspiration taken from a painting by Sassetta, just as all creations are inspired by great masters: Ambrogio Lorenzetti, Simone Martini, Beato Angelico, Menni.
During the development of the project, we wanted to return to traditionally painted environments, where the most sumptuous environments always had decorated walls.
Still honoring the ancient tradition, we highlighted craftsmanship: each lamp, each lampshade, each piece of furniture is built around the environment for which it is intended, wanting to refer to the ancient ideal of balance and harmony and Florentine beauty, in a layering of time combined with modernity.
Don’t miss our Special Series: Florence told by our rooms. In each episode a different room, where, upon entering, you will be discovering a unique and unparalleled Tuscan treasure.
