The Odeon Cinema-Theatre has always been a prestigious space in Florence. In addition to the location, architectural beauty and refined and luxurious decoration, it was one of the few places where it was possible to watch films in the original language with Italian subtitles. Anyone who is a film fan knows the richness of watching a work in its original conception.
More than a century after its inauguration, the former Odeon took a new direction and became Giunti Odeon, a multicultural space that brings together cinema, bookstore, art, theater, events and workshops.
In its 1,500 square meters, there is a bookstore on the ground floor, two projection screens – one for showing films in the dark, which takes place after the bookstore closes; and a large LED wall for daytime cultural entertainment –, as well as a cafe and restaurant. The chairs for the audience are on the second floor, as well as some tables for a coffee or even an aperitif.
The place was restored for this new phase and some decorative elements that were not previously visible came to life, such as the fountains that started working again, the decorations on the columns, the integrity and lighting of the dome, the second order tapestries that finally illuminated and displayed in the original position.
