When people think of the Cascine area, they often imagine just the green park. And yes, the Parco delle Cascine is one of the city’s most important lungs — but this side of Florence is much more than that.
Here, a true contemporary cultural hub has emerged, with the Manifattura Tabacchi taking center stage.
Opened in the 1930s as an industrial complex for tobacco production, it was for decades a symbol of work and modernity. Today, the former rationalist warehouses have been transformed into creative studios, cultural events, design spaces, gastronomy spots, and innovation hubs — giving new life to what was once factory floors.
And it doesn’t stop there. Just a few steps away is Polimoda, one of Italy’s most prestigious fashion schools, reinforcing the area’s creative and international vocation.
What was once an industrial outskirts is now a laboratory of the future. A side of Florence that surprises, and deserves to be discovered with fresh eyes.

Tucked away in Florence’s historic center lies a tiny, almost hidden alley that most visitors walk past without noticing. It links Via delle Brache to Piazza Peruzzi, but what makes it special is its sudden, sharp turn, which inspired its name: Via del Canto Rivolto, the “turned corner.”
More than a proper street, it was likely a back passage serving the grand palazzi facing Via de’ Neri and the surrounding area.
Its narrow shape and abrupt angle made maneuvering carts anything but easy, so much so that a Gothic inscription was carved into the corner stone: “Cāto Rivolto.” An early form of street signage warning drivers to be careful.
Historians believe this engraving is among the oldest in the city — and possibly the only surviving example of medieval street naming carved directly into its original location.

Just 30 minutes from Florence, there’s a museum that tells the story of how new cities were imagined and built in the Middle Ages.
In the heart of San Giovanni Valdarno, the Museo delle Terre Nuove is housed inside the stunning Palazzo d`Arnolfo — the true highlight of the visit.
Built at the end of the 13th century and traditionally attributed to Arnolfo di Cambio, this imposing civic palace dominates Piazza Cavour with its tall tower and fortress-like elegance.
It perfectly reflects the idea behind the “terre nuove”: rational urban planning, political control, and architectural harmony.
Climbing the tower rewards you with sweeping views over the Valdarno — a reminder of how strategic these towns once were.
Inside, models, documents, and interactive displays bring to life the visionary planning of the Florentine Republic.
Would you like to visit the Museo delle Terre Nuove? 👉️ Our concierge team is ready to help you plan this unforgettable experience ☺️

Today we visited the Galleria dell’Accademia in Florence and witnessed the stunning result of the restoration of Spinello Aretino’s 1391 triptych ✨
The golden altarpiece — depicting the Madonna and Child enthroned with saints and prophets — has regained its brilliance after a meticulous conservation process that restored its original balance and beauty.
A dedicated exhibition opens tomorrow (February 24) and runs until May 11, 2026, featuring a video that reveals the story behind the restoration and the hidden layers of this masterpiece.
And of course, every visit here also means standing before the incomparable David by Michelangelo — always worth it.
If you’re in Florence, don’t miss it.
