✨ The Pazzi Chapel, designed by Filippo Brunelleschi, stands within the first cloister of Santa Croce — a place where architecture becomes pure geometry.
Composed with mathematical precision, the chapel reveals a dialogue between medieval tradition and classical ideals. Its proportions are not decorative, but structural: every measure — from the width of the central space to the diameter of the dome — follows a modular system rooted in Florentine braccia.
The decoration is no less intentional. On the walls, twelve glazed terracotta medallions of the Apostles by Luca della Robbia create rhythm and depth, while the frieze of cherubs and the Lamb of God subtly reference both spiritual redemption and the city’s historic wool guild. In the dome, four roundels of the Evangelists — perhaps designed by Brunelleschi himself — complete the space without overpowering it.
Commissioned by the powerful Pazzi family in the 15th century, the chapel was originally intended as a chapter house. While the family later became infamous for their conspiracy against the Medici, their name endures through this architectural marvel.
